Oculoplastic Surgery is a recognised subspeciality of Ophthalmology which requires specific and additional training. Dr Burt is a member to the Australian and New Zealand Society of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery – a recognised group by the Royal Australasian College of Ophthalmology. This society only accepts fully qualified members of the Royal Australian and New Zealand Collage of Ophthalmic Surgeons who complete a further two years of specific Oculoplastic Surgery in major centres around the world. Dr Burt completed this additional training with a fellowships in Auckland New Zealand and The University of California, Los Angeles.
Dr Burt is also one of, if not the only, Australian to be a full member of the prestigious British Oculoplastic Surgical Society known as BOPSS. His qualifications and expertise are recognised globally. In addition to his practice, he is a academic contributor to the field of oculoplastics. Dr Burt also takes great pride in his work with the Fred Hollows foundation which allows him to share his training and knowledge with doctors in disadvantaged communities.
